BigPond Email Problems

We have constant problems with delivery of emails to BigPond. When we deliver an email we see:

smtp;550 <[Name]@bigpond.com> recipient rejected. IB603a

Our best understanding of IB603a is that it means the account is suspended for some reason, this is Telstra's information page about Suspended Email accounts:

The problem is our servers treat this as a hard bounce, which means we stop sending emails to the recipient and we have to manually reactivate the email address in our outbound mail servers.

Except of course, if the account was just suspended and is unsuspended, the person will still not receive EdSmart email without us manually reactivating the account.

You can check for bounced email:

  • Click your user name top right
  • Click Email Bounce Log
