Setting up a SQL connection for EdSmart

Setting up a SQL connection for EdSmart

One of the ways EdSmart can read data from your school is via a SQL connection. To set up a SQL connection to your school database, we need a Read Only user to access your database and the SQL Views you create. Once you're ready for us to test the connection and data import, please contact support with the following details:

  • IP (or hostname if using SSL encryption)
  • Port
  • SQL Server Instance Name
  • SQL Database Name
  • SQL User Name
  • SQL User Password
  • Names of SQL views created for us to read

EdSmart can provide the IP addresses you will need to allow through your firewall and to your database.

Here is an article that may assist in creating and testing the connection: Handy Hints for Enabling a SQL Connection

Alternative option - Azure Hybrid Connection Manager

An alternative to a standard SQL connection is the Azure Hybrid Connection Manager, which allows you to create a SQL connection without opening ports on your network firewall.
