You can import student information into EdSmart using the manual import function.
Step 1 - Prepare your import file
The data must be in CSV (comma delimited) format. Each student record must have a unique identifier, and a Student List name (perhaps a home room class). The imported students will be attached to the Student List, if the List does not exist it will be created for you automatically.
Optionally you can include an email address column.
The first row of the file must contain field names (you can name the fields however you like, you'll have an opportunity to map those fields to fields in ParentPaperwork in a moment).
Step 2 - Select File
Click on your user name at the top right of EdSmart, and click Import Data from the drop down menu.
- Select Type of Data as 'Students'
- Select whether you wish to deallocate all Students from the Student Lists in this import. This means that any students currently allocated to a Student List for which data is now being import, but who are not in the import, or who are in the import but not allocated to the Student List in the import, will no longer be allocated to the List
- Click the green 'Select File' button.
- Pick your CSV file.
- The file will be automatically uploaded.
Step 3 - Map Fields
- You need to map the fields in your file to fields in ParentPaperwork. For Student records you must have:
- Student Id (a unique identifier for the Student)
- Class Name (the Student List the Student will be allocated to)
- First Name
- Last Name
- Email (optional)
Using the drop down lists next to each field, select the correct field from your import file, then click Next.
Step 4 - Wait for the Import
A message will display telling you that the import is in progress. An email will be sent to you when the Student data has been imported, normally this only takes a few minutes.
