Contact Attributes can be used in a Slip to capture useful information from Parents that will help in organising an event or to obtain permission from both the Parents in the case of Separated families

Some Eg:

  • Medicare No

  • Are you willing to volunteer for an event

  • Emergency Contact Number

  • Do you give permission for your Child to get the vaccination

Creating Contact Attributes in EdSmart

Contact Attributes can be created from the Settings which can be accessed by clicking on your School name. There are four Attribute types and they can be included in exports of Slips and also configured to be Editable, Required etc

Contact Attributes can also be imported into EdSmart from your Student Management System. Please send an email to help@edsmart.com for more assistance on this

Using the Contact Attributes in a Slip

One of the advantages of using Contact Attributes in a Slip is it allows both the Contacts associated with a Student to enter information for these fields. So this can be used to collect important information as well as request permission from the Parents.

Please note only one parent can respond to the main contact response, however a Contact Attribute with a Standard Text type can be created similar to a Response question to get opinion of both the contacts.

Contact Attributes have to be added to a template to be used in a Slip. They can be found under the Parent/Student Section on the Form template in the design page. They are displayed with Green Colour

The first Contact who opens the Slip gets to answer the main Contact Response, but it can be used just to acknowledge that they have responded.

Slip seen by First Responder

Slip seen by Second Responder

You can observe that the Second responder will not be able to see what data was entered by the other Contact

School viewing responses with Contact Attributes

A hand icon next to the parent name will be displayed to indicate who made the first response, when you view the response ,data entered by only this parent will be displayed.

To view what the other parent entered you have to click on the name next to the tick mark

The best way to see both the responses together is to do an Export of the responses and a CSV file will be emailed to you with all the data

It is advisable to use Contact Attributes in a Slip only when there is a need to collect information from both the Parents especially during Start of the year and with separated families. Using them in all the Slips will force both the Parents to respond
